RSVP has four new partnering sites that are in need of volunteers. If you have some time to give, please consider helping out one of these rewarding sites. Maybe you know of a friend or relative who might like to join our RSVP family of volunteers. We are always looking for kind, caring and giving people. Here’s a little bit of info on our new sites:
American Red Cross is a historic organization that works every day to prevent and alleviate human suffering. They help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. They provide domestic disaster relief, distribution services, preparedness information, health and safety training, service to the armed forces and international services. Volunteers make a difference every day. Whether you are interested in community services, international services, disaster services or any other lines of services, you’ll find something that fits your niche. They even need volunteers to teach a Pet First Aid Class!
Islip Adult Day Health Services is an adult day care facility that provides daytime health care services to isolated senior citizens. They are operated by the Hamlet and offer social, nursing and personal care services. At this time, they are in desperate need of volunteers in all areas which include arts and crafts, cooking club, computer lab, gardening club, discussion groups, sing-a-longs and other activities that would provide socialization to its participants. Any time you can give would be so greatly appreciated. Hours needed are Monday - Friday, 10 am to 1 pm or 1 pm to 3 pm.
Luxor Nursing & Rehabilitation at Mills Pond, located in St. James, provides short-term sub-acute and long-term rehabilitation and nursing services. Their goal is to nurture and nourish each individual’s needs to restore, renew and rehabilitate. Volunteers are needed to assist the Recreation Department with tasks such as transporting residents to and from destinations within the facility, delivering mail and correspondence, arts and crafts, games, discussion groups and assisting with parties and community outings. Volunteer hours are flexible.
Mercy Center Ministries is helping to make a difference in the lives of young women, mothers and children. Located in Patchogue, they have many volunteer opportunities available including providing childcare for children and babies, assisting with cooking and grocery shopping, assisting with homework, and some light office work. Training is provided and volunteers will participate in Volunteer Meetings, where ideas, issues and thoughts can be explored.
The staff of RSVP would like to recognize a truly special volunteer – Ann Vetro. Annie, as we affectionately call her, is a volunteer in our Telephone Reassurance Program at our Smithtown office. Her friendly voice provides a morning hello to the clients who participate in this program. For some of these seniors, it might be the only voice they hear all day, and the connection Annie has made with many of them is so beautiful to “hear.” Along with her scheduled weekly morning calling, Annie comes in on any day she is needed to fill in and often helps with clerical tasks that need to be done in the office as well. She is a thoughtful, dependable volunteer who we can always count on. Thank you, Annie, for all you do for RSVP!
Some of you may have heard of this wonderful sock company. For each pair of socks purchased from Bombas, a pair is donated to the homeless. RSVP was recently the recipient of 1,000 pairs of Bombas socks which our good friend Tricia Folliero brought to Little Flower Child & Family Services, Maureen’s Haven, SCO Family Services/Morningstar and Infant Jesus Outreach. To date, Bombas has donated more than 21 million pairs of socks to the homeless. That’s what we call GIVING BACK! If you would like to purchase some Bombas socks, go to bombas.com and be a part of something really special!
