“Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action. These actions shape and mold the present into a future of which we can all be proud.” ~~ Helen Dyer
It is with a bit of sadness that we are announcing the cancellation of RSVP’s Annual Tribute Day Event that was
scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, 2020. COVID-19 has presented many challenges, one
of which is the inability to hold an event with large numbers of people attending. Along with
this, our venue for the event, Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook, has been closed during the virus
and as of yet, has not reopened. As disappointed as we all are, safety is, and always should
be, the number one concern. Though we cannot be together in person this year, we will not
allow our wonderful, committed volunteers to go unrecognized. So in the Fall, we will be mailing you a token
of our appreciation. Along with our gift, we are planning a fun raffle for you to be part of if you wish. Again, we
apologize for this disappointment, but we will look ahead to planning Tribute Day 2021.
From time to time, it becomes necessary for RSVP to contact our volunteers, so it’s important that we have your current information on file. If you have had a change of address, phone number or email, please reach out to RSVP’s Volunteer Coordinator, Terri Catania, at 631-979-9490 ext. 15 or email the info to coordinator@rsvpsuffolk.org. Also, for insurance purposes, we need to keep a copy of your most current driver’s license on file which can be mailed to the RSVP Office at 811 West Jericho Turnpike, Suite 103W, Smithtown NY 11787. Thank you!
RSVP is in the early stages of forming a Technology Task Force. This would allow small groups of seniors to get together to learn the ins and outs of computers, tablets and cell phones. We would like to hear your opinions about starting up such a program, and we will be looking for volunteers who have some technology experience to serve as leaders of a group. Please call Betty at 631-979-9490 x12 or email execadmin@rsvpsuffolk.org and let us know what you think. We would really appreciate your feedback.
Right now, millions of Americans face the devastation of Alzheimer’s. The impact of COVID-19 on our most vulnerable communities exacerbates the need for education and support nationwide. The Alzheimer’s Association is currently seeking volunteers who are comfortable utilizing virtual platforms to provide community education, awareness and facilitate support groups. For information regarding these important and much-needed volunteer positions, please call Terri Catania at 631-979-9490 ext. 15
