A huge “Shout Out” to our amazing volunteers with RSVP’s Living Healthy with Better Choices Program. Their hard work and dedication to the program has made our Matter of Balance, Chronic Disease Self-Management, Diabetes Self-Management, and Tai Chi workshops a great success. Our sincere thanks to Jean, Mindy, Joan, Rebecca, Jeanne, Jeff, Theresa, Jane and Myrna.

A wonderful volunteer recognition event took place at St. Charles Hospital this past Spring. We would like to recognize several RSVP volunteers who have dedicated hundreds of hours of service to the hospital. Thank you and a big “Shout Out” to Ann, Eloise, Fred, Georgiana, Karen and Kathy. St. Charles Volunteer Program Coordinator, Tasha Felix-Jerome presented the volunteers with this beautiful poem she composed:

The Heart of a Volunteer

Your heart expands like the endless sea,
A beacon of warmth, so wild and free.
Selflessness, vast as the open sky,
Lifting the weary, standing nearby.
Empathy flows in the gentle deed,
A kindness that answers every need.
With patience steady, deep and true,
You guide with grace in all you do.
The bonds you forge, both strong & bright,
Compassion shining in golden light.
With every soul you choose to tend,
You nurture hearts and help them mend

~~ Tasha Felix-Jerome ~~

Another “Shout Out” goes to RSVP Volunteer Edith Tackenberg. On May 9th, at the annual Suffolk County Office For the Aging 2025 Senior of the Year reception, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine presented Edith with a Certificate of Appreciation for her many years of volunteer service. Though a very busy senior, active with family and friends, Edith has supported RSVP by volunteering as a Health Insurance Information Counseling and Assistance Program (HIICAP) Counselor. She helps seniors with the sometimes difficult and confusing process of signing up for Medicare. Edith also volunteers her kindness by reaching out to fellow seniors through RSVP’s Telephone Reassurance Program. Our clients love chatting with her! It doesn’t end there! Edith also delivers meals to the homebound and volunteers with a local food pantry. She cares about our community and makes a difference in the lives of many seniors every day!
